7 Mobile has brought Smartphones (and other gadgets!) Designed for the Angolan market. Names like Kamba, Swegue, Drena, Txilo… are appealing and many users are curious to test these devices. In 2017 we analyzed 2 smartphones from 7 Mobile: Kamba and Swegue. After the consolidation in the market, in early 2019 we received a new version of the Kamba smartphone. Curious to know what's new ?!
If you weren't aware, Kamba 2's Unboxing was published here ...

Hardware and Design

Kamba 2 remained true to the original design, sharp curved edges, physical “on / off” buttons and “Up / Down” Volume (all positioned on the right side of the smartphone). The headphone jack (Audio Jack 3.5mm) and microUSB jack are positioned on the top of the smartphone, leaving the speakers to the bottom.
The structure of the smartphone is made of metal, with the exception of the plastic back, which has to be removed to insert the nanoSIM and MicroSD cards.
There are two options for those who buy Kamba 2:
  • use only one SIM Card + MicroSD Card to expand storage capacity
  • use two SIM Cards and give up the extra storage. See the user manual for details.

Performance

The 7Mobile Kamba 2 brings the Android 8.1, without deep changes (something that users can thank!). Changes to the UI are visible on the wallpapers, with the 7 Mobile logo from the time we turned on the smartphone.

As for performance, remember we're talking about a mid-range / low-end smartphone with 2GB of RAM. We simulate the most real-life situations in which a user would open some applications like: Messaging, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Camera and two games. With all these apps working (some in the background, how could it be), the smartphone did not lock. However, note that whenever the RAM is being consumed at the limit, your smartphone may not perform smoothly.

Benchmark Results

We use the same performance tests to compare the performance of Kamba 1 and 2.

AnTuTu v.6.2.7
Result: 40080 (against 24988 of the first version)

Geekbench 4
Single Core Result: 608 (against 422 of the first version)
Multi Core result: 1664 (against 1231 of the first version)

It is clear that improved processor and RAM improved the performance of Kamba 2.

Office Supplies

The cameras, much awaited by users, have not been left out of 7 Mobile's change radar. The Kamba 2 features a dual 13 megapixels + 2 megapixels, 3.4mm focal length (the same for the front), F / 2.0 aperture, which worked well, except in places with low light, there the solution was to turn on Flash, where we had clear photos. The Front Camera has been upgraded, you now have 5 megapixels, however, forget the selfies in dimly lit places.

Battery life

The Kamba 2 battery is 3000mAh, better than the 2000mAh of the first version. In intense use, with 4G on, we got more than 10 hours, with the brightness / lighting settings in automatic mode. Without 4G data, using only Wi-Fi connections for data, we managed to reach about 38 hours (with moderate use). Therefore, as it has become a rule, the ideal is to recharge the smartphone every 24 hours.
Speaking of 4G ...
For those who need speed, Kamba 2 can guarantee, in a few tests using the 4G networks in Angola, we reach above 48 Mbps (Down) and 8 Mpbs (Up).

Conclusion

There's no denying, evaluated in 46.000,00 AKZ, Kamba 2 is appealing to anyone looking for a low-cost smartphone.

Strong points:

  • Fingerprint and face recognition, flawless, low response time.
  • Improved performance! RAM management is efficient in this version, with several applications open, the operation was not contributed.
  • Battery life
Improvement points:
  • A longer battery life leads to slow loading, we went from 0% to 100% charging in 3 hours and 20 minutes. "Fast Charging" in version 3.0 of Kamba?
  • Removing the SIM card on the Kamba input one may be difficult, more careless users may damage the card reader slots.
  • Some terms in English (even choosing the language “Portuguese”) in the Smartphone settings may create difficulties for users.
