Angola has 26 million mobile phone subscribers, informed the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Technologies. Pascoal Borges Alé Fernandes.

According to the leader, who was speaking at the 4th Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the 2nd Legislative Session of the V Legislature, he reacted to the vote in favor of the Agreement on the International Organization, called Smart Africa Alliance, designed to transform the African continent into a single digital market, also made reference to other programs, with emphasis on the implementation of projects such as “Angola Online”, implemented in urban centers.

Pascoal Borges Alé Fernandes also pointed out the project Connect Angola, aimed at remote areas that have never had any telecommunications service, with a universe of 20 thousand people, who use the internet service, via Angosat 2.

"There are others in the pipeline, to reinforce the widespread use of the internet in the country, within the framework of investments in infrastructure and submarine cables", said.

This agreement establishes, according to the Secretary of State, advantages in the areas of obtaining support in the implementation of information and communication technology development programs, as well as in mobilizing financial resources from partners and the private sector.

The Smart Africa Alliance is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) made up of African countries that have adhered to the Manifesto of October 29, 2013, by the African Union (AU), Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), African Development Bank (AfDB), World Bank (WB), International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the private sector.

It is a platform that facilitates exchange and knowledge between members, with the aim of transforming the African continent into a single digital market and accelerating sustainable socio-economic development, through the use of information and communication technologies.

The legal instrument referring to Angola's adherence to the Smart Africa Alliance Manifesto, signed on June 29, 2022 by engineer Manuel Homem, at the time Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, guarantees members better access to bandwidth services wide.
