Angola currently has more than one million users of the "mobile money" service, according to the words of the Governor of the National Bank of Angola, José de Lima Massano.

This information was provided last weekend by the head of the Angolan Central Bank, where he also said that these numbers show an evolution of more than half a million members in just one year, meaning a strong preference of holders of mobile phones to benefit from banking services via digital devices.

BUT: National Bank of Angola is considering the implementation of digital currencies

In the figures released, it can be seen that the amounts transacted in the EMIS interbank service network, for the whole of 2021, totaled 17,6 billion kwanzas, which represents an increase of 32% compared to the previous year.

Also according to what is revealed by the newspaper Economy & Finance, In accumulated terms, last year, only in withdrawals and purchases, the value of 6,8 billion kwanzas was registered at the ATMs, where the application Multicaixa Express (HBMB) had 4,9 billion, while Automatic Payment Terminals (APT) had 4,3 billion.

  1. There is a confusion of concepts here, ATM (Automated Teller Machines), TPAs and internet/mobile banking/multicaixa express is not the same thing as mobile money. The way this news is presented, clearly these numbers presented are not related to mobile money (Unitel Money, e-kwanza, etc), so there is misleading news here (either out of ignorance or for convenience).
