BNA will implement a mobile and instant transfer system this year

The National Bank of Angola (BNA) will implement, during 2022, a system of mobile and instantaneous transfers, throughout the national territory, according to the words of the Governor of the institution, José de Lima Massano.

speaking to the National Radio of Angola, the main director of the Angolan Central Bank said that this measure is for “provide greater security and efficiency to payment systems, but also increase levels of financial inclusion”, and where he also highlighted “the development of mobile payments, which already have around one million subscribers throughout the national territory".

"we intend to give greater security and efficiency to payment systems, but also to increase levels of financial inclusion with new and more accessible payment solutions” reinforced the manager.

In the same interview with that Angolan radio station, Jose de Lima Massano informed that mobile and instant transfer systems are "another important step" towards the development of the country's financial system.

"we have already ensured the interoperability of the of mobile and instant transfers. In other words, it will now be possible to carry out transactions between different mobile payment platforms, something very similar to the operation of debit cards in the multicaixa network, in which operations are carried out independently of the bank issuing the card. This is another important step in the development of our financial system and in increasing financial citizenship" said.

BUT: BNA authorizes Unitel to carry out mobile and instant transfers

The BNA Governor also revealed that the creation and implementation of this system will be the sole responsibility of EMIS.

"The BNA defined pillars of normalization of a system of instant transfers and not mobile payments, for this purpose, it entrusted EMIS to develop and implement a market platform that operationalizes instant transfers in Angola” also informed Joaquim Caniço, executive director of EMIS, also speaking for RNA.

Also to inform, according to João Caniço, this platform will be implemented this past year, and its objective is “allow interoperability between the services of payment service providers licensed by the BNA", being "possible to extend financial services to citizens not yet banked".
