Angola wants to lead the digital economy in Africa

Angola wants to position itself as a leader in the digital economy in Africa through the implementation of the Smart Angola Initiative, which will bring benefits both to the national market and to citizens, according to the words of the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), Manuel Man.

The Angolan leader spoke these words during a meeting with one of the members of the ruling family of the Emirate of Dubai, Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum, on a visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that is part of the implementation, in its fullness, of “proposal for the implementation of the Digital Transformation Program (Digital Angola 2024)”, part of the Memoranda of Understanding signed in December 2021, during the official visit of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

During the meeting, several memorandums of understanding were also signed, such as “of Intentions for Cooperation and Exploration of Opportunities","of Intent for Cooperation in the Transport Sector", as well as "for Cooperation in the Energy and Water Sector”, where the latter the Government of the United Arab Emirates will finance the construction of solar parks in Angola.

"They have an initial package of around one billion dollars for the construction of these parks for renewable energies which, in the end, will later be absorbed for consumption by the population and economic enterprises in the country”, said the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges.
