Angola has contributed strongly to the digital transformation of Africa, demanding global Internet governance mechanisms that can contribute to transforming the continent into a zone of peace and socioeconomic development, prosperity and without any type of exclusion.
This fact was expressed by the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, at the opening of the First Internet Governance Forum in Angola, reiterating that Internet Governance is a topic that cuts across all sectors of social and professional life, and highlighted Angola's active participation in the Internet Governance process at regional and continental level.
According to the director, the fact that the 2nd Southern African Internet Governance Forum took place in Luanda, in 2013, followed by subsequent participation in the African Internet Governance Forum, clearly demonstrates Angola's commitment.
BUT: Angola gained more than 6 million internet users
As an example, for Mário Oliveira, during the 18th annual meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (global event), held in Kyoto, Japan, in October 2023, discussions focused on the theme “The Internet We Want – Empowering All People”, a subject of great scope.
The topic of Internet Governance was discussed exhaustively, for the first time, during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), held in two phases, 2003 and 2005 where, through the Geneva Declaration of Principles and the Plan of Tunis Action, in a consensual way, it was recognized that the Internet is a fundamental infrastructure for global stability, as well as for the socioeconomic development of nations, making it a given that the management of its resources must occur in a democratic way , transparent and multilateral, involving the active participation of local, regional and global actors in the process.
