O Angosat-2 will leverage the Oil and Gas sector in Angola, with regard to telecommunications, according to the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira.

The public official who was speaking at the Conference on Technologies and Innovation, organized by Mercury Serviços de Telecomunicações (MSTelcom), also said that it is possible to provide the oil sector, and beyond, with systems that make it possible to determine oil spills, among other services, all of which with Angosat-2.

Speaking to a vast audience of analysts in the oil and gas sector, Mário Oliveira stressed that with the Angolan geostationary satellite and the earth observation system, the Executive is in a position to provide the oil sector with what it considers the needs of the oil market And not only.

"Angosat2 is a big investment that the country has developed. It is a component of the National Space Program that includes the ground observation system.”, he informed.

Still in his approach, the Minister points out that in addition to Angosat2, the Angolan Executive has started the project for the expansion of optical fiber, which will become a piece "very important” for the oil exploration ecosystem.

Mário Oliveira also revealed that our country recently joined the “2 África” cable, one of the largest in optical fiber construction, and in the last 20 to 25 years, clearly showing that the Government has invested cyclically in basic telecommunications networks, either via satellite, microwave or fiber optics.

It should be noted that Angola has a set of three international fiber optic cables that dock in the national territory, including the SACS, the only one that connects Africa with South America.

Another project pointed out as being of capital importance to benefit the oil sector is the development of space applications.

Finally, the Minister highlighted the importance of continuing to give young people the opportunity to continue studying and training, because, “there is no point in having satellites if we do not have young people capable of handling all the technology around the development of the technological ecosystem".
