AOPF&AONOG: Overview of Interconnection in Angola

1558

Knowing the current panorama of interconnection in Angola can be a headache for many, as accessing data or information in our country is still a headache, but fortunately there are still some people who are still worried about sharing information or knowledge that some institutions can serve for the common good.

The AOPF & AONOG Program Committee (Angolan Network Operators Group) is a living example of this, bringing together all ICT professionals and other members of the technical and research community to share and exchange best practices for implementing new technologies or protocols.

The Angola Peering Forum took place from the 9th to the 10th of November at the Palmeiras Suite Hotel, an event that brought together several Angolan and foreign experts in the Technology sector, where various topics were debated, where the current situation in our country was addressed.

Overview of Interconnection in Angola

During the event Ernesto Alberto (Co-Chair of AONOG) addressed the panorama of interconnection in Angola, presenting that the country currently has four national submarine cables, including:

As for autonomous systems issued cumulatively from 1996 to 2023, there are currently 68, of which 47,62% belong to Internet Service Providers, 30,16% to Banks/Financial Services, while the other two percentages 19,05% and 3,17% belong to a category not defined by AFRINIC.

Regarding Data Centers, the country currently has seven, distributed quantitatively as follows: Multipla (1), Angola Cables (1), Paratus Angola (2), MSTelcom (3).

Regarding Internet Traffic Exchange points (IXP) in Angola, the country has Angonix, which was launched in 2015 under the responsibility of Angola Cables, as well as Angola IXP launched in 2006 under the responsibility of Angola Telecom/Paratus Angola.

É It is notable that Angola is seeking to have a favorable positioning in terms of telecommunications infrastructure, and that we are currently not poorly served, but we must also recognize that the service to be delivered to the end user must improve, in order to feel the such significance of this panorama of interconnection in Angola.
