Started this Tuesday (08) the AfricaCom 2022, at the International Convention Center in Cape Town, South Africa, one of the largest technology events in Africa, with the presence of companies from all over the world and that address several relevant topics about technology, highlighting presentations by professionals with vast years of experience .

The largest gathering of the technology community on the African continent, according to the organization, it will attract more than 11.000 technology experts and business leaders from a wide range of industry verticals.

Which companies will represent Angola?

With a presence marked in the last major world events, the Unitel appears once again to represent Angola, with the presence of the most senior figures in the Administration at the event, and intends to highlight its portfolio of business products and services, with innovative solutions designed to meet the different challenges and needs of small, medium and large companies.

A AngolaCables is the other national company present at the event, with emphasis on its CEO, Ângelo Gama, being a speaker at #AfricaCom2022 in the Start Panel: “Cloud Computing is Driving an African Infrastructure Revolution” and talked about the ongoing race to build Africa's cloud infrastructure.

On the inaugural day, the African Telecommunication Union (ATU) held a ministerial forum with participants from Malawi, Namibia, Uganda and Zambia, in a session that focused on methods to create a new sense of hope for Africa's digital economy journey.

Under the theme “Rise Stronger with Digital Economy: New Paths towards a Resilient Recovery and Growth”, the forum was supported by Huawei and moderated by Sharoda Rapeti, non-executive partner of Delta Partners.

Introducing the session, ATU Secretary General John Omo spoke on digital transformation as the engine of inclusive economic growth, job creation, improved delivery of public services and optimization of business services in Africa.

"Africa needs digital innovation to drive across all segments of business and society if we are to strengthen our digital economy,” said John Omo. 🇧🇷According to the World Bank, Africa needs $100 trillion to achieve full digital transformation, and no one in the public or private sector has the capacity to do it alone. Through the power of investment and regulation, together we can create a framework that will effect the growth and development we want to see."

Leo Chen, President of Huawei Southern Africa Region, emphasized the three main elements of digital transformation: digital infrastructure, digital services e digital skills.

"If we do these three things well, we can connect the unconnected people and businesses, fully unleash digital productivity, and develop the digital economy, no matter how you define it.“, he reiterated.

Forum guests were in consensus that digital infrastructure is key to ensuring the digital transformation of their respective countries. Francis Bisika, chief secretary of e-government in Malawi, said that 2.300 km of fiber network had been installed across the country, including in remote rural areas.
