The “contactless card”, a technological feature that allows transactions to be carried out without contact with devices such as the Automatic Payment Terminal (APT), could be introduced into the banking system later this year, according to the chairman of the Executive Committee of the Interbank Services Company (EMIS), José Gualberto de Matos.

Speaking on the program Great Interview of the Public Television of Angola, the manager spoke of the enormous functionalities for the country in the introduction of this technology.

"We are developing this service because Angola is one of the few countries in Africa that has a multicaixa card with its own rules. The entry into operation of the “contactless card” will also depend on the dynamism of commercial banks", said.

BUT: EMIS plans to launch TPA-Express and “Kwık”

According to Sophie Nerbonne of the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL), reiterates thatcontactless card is a new bank card which has remote payment functionality using so called technology NFC (Near Field Communication), so you can pay without having to insert your card into the reader".

There are two risks associated with using these types of cards. The first was highlighted by a researcher in 2012. It alerted to the fact that it was possible to remotely read both the name of the holder, the list of transactions, as well as the card number and expiration date. This obviously raised a number of concerns. And now the name of the holder and the list of transactions are no longer available. Therefore, it is impossible to clone a card with remote payment just from the card number and expiry date.

At this time, these payments are secure. But the second risk regarding the privacy of personal data still exists, as the card number and expiry date remain available.

In the opinion of some specialists, it is important that people are fully informed when they receive a credit card with remote payment technology, so that they can choose whether or not they want to activate this new feature.
