Copilot: Microsoft will add a new key to Windows

O Copilot is now the focus of a whole batch of Microsoft apps and services in the Windows ecosystem. For Microsoft, “new year, new key”. For the first time in 30 years, the company will add a new command to the Windows keyboard, responding to what will be one of the trends of the coming years: Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Microsoft has announced one of the biggest changes to Windows PC keyboards in 30 years. The company has confirmed that upcoming desktops and laptops will integrate a key dedicated to its AI, the Copilot. Microsoft highlighted, in a release, that 2024 will be “the year of the PC with AI”. Following this potential approach, we are likely to see more developments in the coming months.

As shared by the company, when a user presses the new command, Windows 11 will open a new side section dedicated to Copilot. This will stand out, mainly, for a chatbot similar to the one the company uses on Bing. Users will be able to make generic queries and access some settings.

Microsoft shared that this new key will be integrated into some of the company's partner keyboards throughout this year. Predictably, on machines from Lenovo, Acer, Asus, and Microsoft itself. In countries where Copilot is not yet available, the key will open the Windows Search.
