O National Bank of Angola (BNA) has been developing several initiatives with a view to modernizing payment systems, essentially aiming at increasing inclusion, according to José Barata, President of Deloitte Angola.

Speaking at the launch of the 17th edition of Banking in Analysis, a study that has become one of the main initiatives of the company, being a reference for an informed reflection by national economic agents, the manager stresses that the BNA has carried out several reforms with a view to the development of digital payments in Angola, namely with the launch of Instant Transfer System, as well as reinforcing the conditions for the widespread dissemination of electronic means of payment and support.

José Barata also highlights the Regulation of the Regulatory Sandbox, approved in the last quarter of 2022, which aims to provide the development of innovative technological payment solutions in the financial sector, in a controlled environment safeguarding risk mitigation, in order to boost financial inclusion and guarantee the stability of the financial system.

As for electronic means of payment, this year’s edition of Banca em Análise shows the very solid growth of several indicators associated with this topic, in particular in terms of the use of automatic payment terminals (APT), which recorded a positive variation close to 21% in 2022 and the number of MultiCaixa Cards Issued (increase of 13% in 2022). With regard to the use of Automatic Teller Machines (ATM), this also shows a positive variation in 2021, around 11%, above the variation recorded in 2021 (6% more), which demonstrates a recovery from the reduction seen in the pandemic period.

The study also shows that the interbank channel Multicaixa Express (MCX) has been cementing its popularity with a growth of around 13,7% in 2022, in terms of transactions.

In terms of amounts transacted by the MCX, it already transacts a higher amount than the amount transacted in TPAs, with a growth of 16,7% compared to 2021, which is a signable fact and I would like to praise the role of EMIS in this regard.

Additionally, this year's edition of the study analyzes the evolution of transactions carried out through homebanking (H2H -Host to Host), which includes mobile banking and internet banking, channels that have been recording more moderate growth and well below other payment channels such as Multicaixa Express or transactions at ATMs.
