Angolan civil society must awaken “spatial awareness”, particularly young people, through initiatives in primary, secondary and higher education, according to the director of the National Space Program Management Office, Zolana João.

The Director who spoke on the sidelines of the world space week, which took place from October 04th to 10th, under the motto “Space and sustainability”, stressed that these events are a good opportunity for professionals in the sector to analyze their current state and present innovative proposals.

"The activities proposed this year focus on the administration of courses, the promotion, information and creation of space and technological projects, for which we have partners, such as the Telecommunications Institutes (ITEL), Superior Polytechnic of Technologies and Sciences ( ISPETC) and the Kandengues Scientists”, explained Zolana João.

For the fifth consecutive year, Angola celebrated the World Space Week, with the realization of several activities. In all, more than 600 participants, including primary, higher, secondary and secondary education students, as well as engineering professionals, participated in the events that took place in Luanda.

In total, eight activities were carried out, from lectures, workshops on space and sustainability, recreational and educational activities organized by institutions, such as the arotec, an organization focused on the various areas of technology and with emphasis on robotics, ISPTEC, Kandengues Cientistas, Nestlé, through the Alliance for Youth, and the Institute of Environmental Management (INGA).

These activities were supported by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS) and the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), whose specialists presented at different events how space technologies and space resources can support sustainability.

It should be noted that the events of the opening act of the World Space Week, which were attended by the Minister of MINTTICS, Mário Oliveira, and the lecture promoted by ISPTEC, were events that, in partnership with INFRASAT, were also monitored online by Internet users, through streaming on GGPEN's Facebook and YouTube pages. On these occasions, three space applications were presented, which use satellite images for the detection and monitoring of assets, namely, Tech-Gest, Tech-Agro and Tec-Ecology.
