Pedro Paz, a reference to take into account when talking about “Cloud”

I got to know Pedro Paz in one of the sessions of the CAST (Angolan Community of Security and Technology).

In one of the editions he shared his knowledge about “Cloud Computing" (Cloud computing).

Being a very interesting subject, there was no way to leave Less Thin readers without this information, so the Less Thin team invited the Pedro Paz for little talk.

Less Threads (MF): Can you make a small presentation to our readers, your specialty, the forums you participated in?

Pedro Paz (PP): I'm Pedro Paz, I'm 25 years old and graduated in Informatics.
Licenciatura: Web and Application Development (Web and Application Development)
Masters Degree in Information Technology Management
I have participated in many international events / forums and will mention the following:
• Career Development at University College Of London in 2011 (UK / London)
• Educational Reform at London Imperial College in 2011 (UK / London)
• Fighting against cyber crime at London School of Economics in 2011 (UK / London)
• Africa and Globalization at London School of Economics in 2011
• Facebook and ICT Law at University of East London in 2011
In July of 2012 I was invited to lecture on International Cloud Computing Conference in Thailand and it was a success.

MF: By the way, I could explain the concept of “cloud computing” (Cloud Computing)

PP:Before I would like to emphasize that this term has been discussed a lot and still leaves many doubts, however, I would define Cloud Computing as being the availability / delivery of certain computer services using Internet technologies. These services are divided into 3 categories: Hardware, Platform and Applications.

MF: What benefits would companies have in using Cloud Computing?

PP: This technology offers us many benefits and more below I will mention some that I think relevant:
• Reduced costs
Availability of information / data anywhere and at any time
• Reduction in the need for technical support
• High scalability
• Pay only for the resources to be used (pay-as-you-go model
Ease of integration with existing or existing systems in the enterprise

MF: What about end users?

PP: It does not differ much from the benefits mentioned above:
• Availability of information / data 24 / 24
• Access to information / data anywhere
• Immediate use of new tools (if added by the provider)
• Use of resources independently of any other

MF: One of the biggest problems related to the “cloud” is information security. Will the companies that provide these services not access our data?

PP: Some may do so for certain purposes.

MF: Returning to end users, we have seen an "invasion" of companies / applications for the "cloud", we can mention Dropbox, Skydrive, Google Drive, Box Net ... How can we choose the best company to trust our information?

PP: From my point of view the best way is tothe company's historical data, in order to evaluate the quality they have provided, and in the case of companies, I advise that in the initial phase start with small services such as e-mail, file sharing and consequently increase the number of services according to quality and reliability verified.

MF: Companies like banks, government institutions, take extra care with your information. How could they put their information in the cloud as safely as possible?

PP: Cloud computing can be implemented in 4 different environments: Public, Private, Hybrid (public + private) and Community.
In this case, the company can choose the hybrid environment and define which services, data or information to be placed in the public environment and which in the private environment. On the other hand, the client company should always require the SLA (Service Level Agreement) which is a compromise document between the two parties so that the information is safeguarded and if there is any disagreement, both parties will have this document (the SLA) as proof.

MF: In Angola, are there conditions for companies and not only, to use the “cloud” 100%?

PP: Cloud computing technology is only possible because of the 3 factors mentioned below:
• Significant advances in the world of virtualization
• Improvements and strength in internet technologies
• Improvements in information infrastructure (such as: data centers advanced)

Our country unfortunately does not yet have any of these three factors at its highest level, so I believe we are not yet in a position to use this technology to 100%.

MF: What is the future of cloud computing?

PP: With the accelerated growth in the mobile technology industry, where it boils down to the introduction of ultra-smart devices such as iPhone, Galaxy 3, iPad and many others, I believe it will not be long before we are talking about Mobile Cloud Computing in a very intense way in which the destinations and business of many large companies will be driven with the small smart device through a few touches on a touch screen.

MF: Final considerations.

PP: This technology also has its disadvantages just like any other, plus the benefits it offers are immense and so I believe that the conditions / factors mentioned in the previous question must be created in ways that we can enjoy in full.
