Facebook has committed to cultivating the ecosystem of technology startups in Africa

Facebook announced its return as the main sponsor of the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield Africa 2018. The event will be held in Lagos, Nigeria and will target the best innovators, manufacturers and technical entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa. The TechCrunch Startup Battlefield Africa puts the startups competing in three categories: social welfare; productivity and utility; and games and entertainment. The program profiles the founders and entrepreneurs who are likely to be on the next wave of technological innovation in Africa and highlights new ideas, businesses and applications with disruptive potential.

O sponsored by Facebook, it will bring together the strongest startups from across Sub-Saharan Africa, where it will participate in an audience of 500 people, including investors, government officials and developers. Facebook representatives in Africa and beyond will be there to celebrate, where they will be connected, listening and learning with various communities, as well as participating in a series of workshops, networking and lectures between 6 and 11 in December.

Some of the events that Facebook will host during the week include:

  • Developers Circle Leaders Summit (6 to 7 December): Two-day summit for more than 65 Developer Circles Leaders in Sub-Saharan Africa, representing a growing community of more than 42.800 members in 31 cities of 15 sub-Saharan African countries.

  • Instagram Inspire Action Lagos - Women and Small Businesses Event (6 December): A workshop to inspire, educate and train 70-80 entrepreneurs and women working in technology with a panel with special guests.

  • Startups and Developers Summit 2018 by Developer Circle Niga © ria (8 December): Gathering 600 participants and hosted by Facebook Developer Leads, Summit will conduct training and workshop sessions on topics specialized in advanced technology such as Messenger Bot.

  • Aspiring Entrepreneurs - Digital Pitch Competition (10 December): Winners of seven Nigerian states participating in the Aspiring Entrepreneurs: Digital 2018 program will launch their business to a panel of judges to get a chance to win support and prizes from Facebook and Fate Foundation.

  • NG Hub Startup Mixer (December 10): A social gathering that brings together startups from across the ecosystem, including startups from NG_Hub (Startups using the Facebook Community Hub) and those participating in the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield event.Student Hack (11 December): In partnership with Re: Learn by CC_Hub, Facebook will gather 50 high school students from Lagos to participate in the Hack a Day and other activities that highlight the difference that developers can make in the world.
