Gmail launches shortcut to unsubscribe from emails

Last October, Google required bulk email senders to include a one-click unsubscribe button. Now the gmail is adding this option to its web version. The new “Unsubscribe” button is positioned prominently next to the sender’s name and email address in a noticeable blue color.

In the web version of Gmail, the “Unsubscribe” button appears next to the sender’s name and address. By clicking on it, the user needs to confirm the decision, thus avoiding accidental clicks.

This shortcut also appears when hovering over messages in the inbox. The feature is included between the “Archive” and “Delete” options.

BUT: Google will delete millions of Gmail accounts. Find out how to avoid

For now, the shortcut to the “Unsubscribe” button appears exclusively in the web version of Gmail. It is likely that the new feature will be implemented in the app to Android e iOS in the future.

This is second new feature from Google which seeks to solve the problem of inboxes full of “transfigured spam”. Also in December this year, the company presented RETVec, a significantly more efficient spam detection mechanism — still under development.

Additionally, starting in 2024, Gmail's new rules for bulk senders will come into effect. The platform's new policies require these addresses to be authenticated and simplify the unsubscription process.
