Recently the Google Drive app was considered the most popular way to share pirated content. Now it looks like the desktop application will be officially discontinued forever.
Support will be stopped on 11 December 2017 and the application will shut down completely in 12's 2018 frame.
Users who are still running the app will start receiving notifications in October that this "app will stop working" and the company will direct customers to one of two replacements depending on whether they are a consumer or business user. Users will still be able to access it from the web, and smartphone applications.
What will drive shut down?
The company currently has two very new software tools that allow users to back up their data or access files in the cloud. There is backup and synchronization, the comprehensive consumer application that replaces standalone applications in Drive and Google Photos Uploader. It essentially offers the same functionality as Drive and works the same way.
And on the business side, Drive File Stream was launched, which saves space on your local drive, while providing access to “all of your Google Drive files on demand, directly from your computer.”
