A drone delivery company from A (multinational responsible for Google), received the green light to take over Australia's skies, with the project that is known as “Wing“An autonomous delivery drone service that aims to reduce vehicle congestion in cities, increase access to goods in rural areas and help alleviate emissions CO2 (carbon dioxide).

The service has been testing deliveries for the past 18 months in the US and Australia, but has now been approved for commercial delivery operations in progress by the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

What products were delivered during the tests?

During the testing period, the company was using its drones to distribute "food and drinks, over-the-counter drugstore items and locally made coffee and chocolate". Also during that period, about 3.000 deliveries were made, while the service was being inspected by CASA, with regulators interested in seeing if the drones posed a risk to the public.

A approval of CASA can be a great signal to other regulators that the project is reliable enough for their own jurisdictions. However, as it is the first given to any commercial drone project anywhere in the world, other regulators may continue to exercise caution for approval.
