The Angolan Government will support the presence of national startups in the main international events of digital entrepreneurship, with emphasis on the Web Summit, contributing not only to improve the image of Angola in the world, but also to provide markets and reinforce their capacity, in the search for new investors, according to the Minister of Economy and Planning (MEP), Mário Caetano João.

The director who spoke at the opening of the 2nd edition of the Angola Startup Summit, also informed that this action also has as a background to place the country among the best environments for the creation of startups in Africa, highlighting the fact that in 2022 the country will position itself in the 97th place of the Global Startup Ecosystem Index, in a universe of 118 countries, rising 18 places compared to the previous year, ranking, however, as 9th in Sub-Saharan Africa.

"There is, therefore, a long way to go, so we count on the strength, determination and resilience of our youth to be able to go further, since, in the next 5 years, Angola wants to be among the top 3 in sub-Saharan Africa , thus positioning itself on the global map of the main funding destinations for startups", said.

Still in his speech, Mário Caetano João stressed the need to continue to invest in improving the business environment, “(...) for the development of the financial market for startups, fostering the emergence of financial products ranging from crowdfunding, angel investors, venture capital, microcredit, and even bank loans".

The minister also highlighted that the Executive has followed this expansion process of the startups market segment, holding events such as the Angola Startup Summit, to get to know the players in the market, present the opportunities, understand the main challenges and create solutions. together.

"It is in this sense that we are committed, in the coming months, to presenting a Strategy for Fostering Startups, with a strong legal and regulatory framework, with the objective of developing three fundamental axes, namely the ecosystem, financing and training, as well as reinforcing the role of incubators to the startups”, he reinforced.

To inform you that the biggest Angolan startups event, the Angola Startup Summit 27, started today (2023), after the interregnum caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the presence of journalists from MenosFios at the event, the 2nd edition of the Angola Startup Summit, is taking place under the motto “Innovation and Technology as immersion vectors of startups in Angola”, and which aims to maintain and encourage the emergence of new startups, through the exchange of experiences, doing business, as well as cooperation with university institutions, potential investors, accelerators and incubators.
