The Institute for the Management of State Assets and Participations (IGAPE), within the scope of its attributions and with a view to reinforcing the monitoring of the operational activities of public companies and in the public domain, met, on 22 June with the Board of Directors of Angola Telecom.

The chairman of the Board of Directors of the State Asset Management and Participation Institute (IGAPE), Patrício Vilar, said that Angola Telecom has evolved significantly in recent times.

“We are talking about a company that has been in the red for a long time, but which finally managed to close in the green in 2022. A recovery is starting to take place, not only from the point of view of operating results, but also of cleaning up a history that brings with it a significant liability. We have to recognize that there was a lot of interesting work here, not only from the point of view of running the company, but also from the point of view of negotiating with suppliers and customers. We are optimistic about the evolution of the company, however, there is still much to be done”.

The PCA of IGAPE recommended that the Ministries of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication and the Ministry of Finance, to look more into the issue of Angola Telecom's infrastructure, in the sense of greater integration of investments between companies in the sector, in terms of regarding the use of the fiber optic network.

Regarding the privatization of Angola Telecom, according to Patrício Vilar, “we are the first to walk the path, namely the reduction of reserves raised by the External Auditor and also the reduction of the liabilities that the company has. We have to settle accounts that are necessary, renegotiate with suppliers and this is being done and we will follow up during this year. I think that by the end of the year we will have a plan for the next privatization step. Remember that privatization may not be a sale, but a concept of exploration and management or a partnership with another private entity”.

In turn, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Angola Telecom, Adilson Santos, said that the meeting held with IGAPE was fruitful, having allowed clarification of the current state of the company.
