The digital influencer Lu Xiao Maomao often used social networks to spread her beauty tips and news from the fashion world. However, a week ago the “live” of the influencer was different, as Lu tried to commit suicide in the broadcast, according to Daily Star.

Lu Xiao Maomao, 25 years old, exchanged the usual content about beauty and fashion tips that was common to see in his videos, for a simple publication in which he predicted it would be the last and where he thanked the company of his followers. In the same broadcast, Lu revealed he was depressed and invited his followers to watch a live that would take place on the same night.

At the beginning of the live, the influencer admitted having arrived "at the bottom of the well”, having tried to commit suicide in front of the followers who were watching the broadcast. According to the police report on the case, the followers encouraged the influencer to drink pesticide, a product that ended up taking her life the next day, already in the hospital.

"I look happy, but this is all for the show. I hope everyone is happy when they see my videos and they will see that I am happy too. I can't take it anymore", spoke Lu on the broadcast.

Lu Xiao Maomao, who had more than 770 followers on the douyin – the Chinese version of TikTok –, went viral on social networks and a single topic on the subject on Weibo attracted 78,2 million hits. Among thousands sharing the case, many were the netizens who condemned the followers who had encouraged Lu to carry out what he planned to do.

After his death, discussion was the main topic of conversation at Douyin, because lives must comply with a panoply of guidelines, in order to prevent harmful content. Therefore, netizens have demanded a response from ByteDance, the company that owns the platform, about the death of Lu Xiao Maomao.
