Investment in Angolan startups is still very low, revealed the administrator of the National Institute for Support to Small and Medium Enterprises (INAPEM), Bráulio Augusto.

Speaking on the sidelines of the presentation conference for the 2024 edition of Angola Startup Summit 2024 By Unitel, the director reported that the rate of investment in emerging projects developed by Angolan startups that participated in the last two editions of the event was below expectations.

"Yes, we had some expressions of interest, but, in terms of the completion rate, we are still below what was expected, we have to recognize that. We are working with private partners who are moving this class forward”, said the Administrator, in an interview with the magazine Economy & Market.

According to Bráulio Augusto, there is currently a major challenge in attracting investors to Angolan startups, essentially, due to the lack of comfort and legal security necessary to encourage the emergence of 'angel investors' with the capacity to support the implementation and scalability of innovative models.

The manager reiterates that legal frameworks “ends up not only bringing benefits” for those who undertake (startup), as well as for those who want to invest”, but “first it is important to consolidater” the legal framework, which “it is necessary” due to the risk that these businesses present, he warns.

Finally, he assured that INAPEM is working to align the initiatives to offer investment opportunities and the search for capital to implement them.
