Today is another day to follow the Mobile World Congress, one of the most important events in the mobile world that takes place right now in Barcelona. The event started on the 24th of this month and will end on the 27th, that is, 3 days of a lot of exposure by the big and small brands. In addition to the exhibitions, the GSMA (GSM Association) organized the Annual Global Mobile Awards to distinguish in certain categories the devices launched on the market.
Here are some of the categories and their respective winners:
- Best smartphone: HTC One
- Best low cost smartphone: Nokia Lumia 520
- Most innovative device manufacturer of the year: LG
- Best Tablet: Apple iPad Air
- Best mobile infrastructure: Nokia Solutions to Telefonica O2 UK Limited
In addition to the companies and devices two African countries were awarded:
- Government Prize Connected: Government of Botswana
- Best mobile health care service: Econect Wireless Vaccine from Zimbabwe
Many may have expected to see the name of Apple or one of its products on this list, but the same did not happen, not even Samsung managed to win some category, another surprise was to see HTC One win the category of best Smartphone, leaving to behind its competitors, the iPhone 5S and Galaxy S4.
