A Meta, parent company of Instagram and Facebook, this Thursday lifted the suspension, in force since January 2021, of the accounts of the former President of the United States Donald Trump on those social networks.

In the first hours after the decision, the candidate for the Republican primaries for the 2024 North American presidential elections still did not publish anything on those platforms, reported the Efe agency.

The restitution of the republican tycoon's accounts comes weeks after Meta announced that it would restore the former President's access.

The ban began following comments by Trump before, during and after the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Twitter, for its part, restored Trump's account last November and the Republican has also not published a single word on this platform since then.

The reactivation of Trump's accounts will allow him to share information again through his Facebook and Instagram pages, which have 34 million and 23 million followers, respectively.

In January, the former head of state had officially asked to be allowed to return to Facebook.

Lawyer Scott Gast sent a letter to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg asking him for “a meeting to discuss the speedy readmission” on that social network.

"We believe that the suspension of President Trump's Facebook account has radically distorted and restricted public debate.“, can be read in the missive dated January 17.

Trump was a big fan of social media while he was in the White House, between 2017 and 2021, whether to announce official business, comment on television programs or announce what he would eat that day, among many other things.

After being banned from the main social networks in 2021, the former President created his own social network, Truth Social, which he launched in October 2021.

Trump signed an exclusive contract with Truth Social, the validity of which is unknown, although the specialized 'media' indicate that this situation could end in March 2023.
