Microsoft Removes Internet Explorer From Windows Today And For Good

1776

You can say goodbye this Tuesday Internet Explorer (IE): if you're still using this browser from Microsoft, it's time to change since this Valentine's Day it will be permanently disabled from all systems with Windows 10 – for Windows 11, Explorer wasn't even officially provided.

Thus, users who still use the browser will no longer be able to access it – Microsoft is releasing a software update that will permanently disable Internet Explorer 11. Instead of being an update to Windows itself, Microsoft wants an update irreversible for Microsoft Edge. It is therefore recommended to use the Internet Explorer mode that is found on the most recent versions of Edge.

BUT: Microsoft announces closure of Internet Explorer

Microsoft assured that "the move to use the Microsoft Edge update to disable IE is intended to provide a better user experience and help organizations transition their last remaining users from IE11 to Microsoft Edge".

Now, with this change, users trying to launch Internet Explorer will now launch Edge. IE will be permanently disabled from the system and there is no going back on this decision. Internet Explorer icons may still remain around the system for a while, but they too will eventually be removed.

Microsoft hopes to completely remove all visual traces of Internet Explorer with a future update for the system, to be delivered in June.
