The holding of the second edition of the Internet Governance Forum is an initiative of the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (INTIC) and partners committed to the massification of ICTs in the country.

Luís Canhemba, executive director of INTIC, explained that the Internet Governance Forum was created by the United Nations (UN) to allow countries to start discussing issues related to the development of the Internet, versus the development of nations.

"Today it is unavoidable to talk about technology when we intend to talk about development, and even our lives. That's why the UN creates this platform for discussing digital transformation and also the digital economy.", said.

He explained that the forums are provincial, national and global in scope, in which the motto of discussions is the internet. At the national level, Canhemba highlights accessibility, inclusion, costs, financial transactions, cyber security and other important elements in financial management, data collection and cloud storage as key points.

The Internet Governance Forum encompasses not only government entities, but also civil society, the private sector and citizens in general, as users of these new trends in the world of communication.

"Just to give an example, one of the issues raised in the provinces has to do with costs. If the internet is expensive, how can inclusion be guaranteed? As the main speaker at the event, engineer Bernardo Mariano, said, if we do not make this effort to make the internet reach everyone, it will be very complicated for development issues to be global and we will create elites”, he quoted.

In addition to the challenges that still exist in this regard, Canhemba added that there are digital transformation projects for the digital economy, with the aim of seeing the internet reach more citizens.

He stressed that the challenges in the massification of the internet in Mozambique are transversal and not the sole responsibility of INTIC, an entity that plays the role of regulator in this matter, creating legislation capable of making the internet more accessible.

"There are other players who are doing their part within this process, such as the issue of costs, infrastructure", finished.

Companies such as Intel, Google, Cotur, TMCEL, Huawei, FDSMOZ and entities such as the World Bank, the European Union, the African Development Bank were represented at the event, demonstrating some practical internet services for the benefit of citizens.
