The reduction in cases of Covid-19 and the vaccination of the population has allowed the relaxation of many restrictive measures, including in the education sector.

The reopening of face-to-face teaching establishments in Mozambique was gradual. Initially, schools adopted the hybrid model, a methodology that combines online and face-to-face methods.

According to Elias Majante, Pedagogical Director at Eduardo Modlane University, the prolonged period of closure of educational establishments has led the education sector, all over the world, to the intensive use of technology.

Its methodologies were adapted in accordance with the relaxation of restrictive measures.

BUT: [Mozambique] Covid-19 has brought technology closer to education

For Majante, blended learning may be applicable in Mozambican universities, but digital technologies need to be expanded and deepened, so that they are of quality.

The director made it known that, despite having returned 100% to face-to-face classes, this methodology continues to be applied at UEM, as a complement to face-to-face teaching.

"This model is here to stay, it cannot be abandoned. The situation is currently the best, but we don't know what can happen in the future. The country may again be in an emergency situation. The hybrid model is a learning and education ally“, stressed the academic.

All educational institutions must be prepared for probable waves of Covid-19 or the outbreak of other diseases, in order to guarantee continuity of learning in different contexts and realities.
