[Mozambique] Government defends retaining staff to ensure cyber security

The Mozambican Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Daniel Nivagara, said that hiring and retaining staff specialized in cybersecurity and training national staff in these matters is fundamental and decisive for the development of national security capacity. in cyberspace.

Speaking in the Mozambican parliament, during the Questions to the Government Session, Nivagara underlined that “cybersecurity is an emerging and transversal area that has affected all socioeconomic areas, thus increasing its impact in magnitude and frequency".

"The effects of cyber attacks are harmful to society, citizens and institutions, both public and private, negatively influencing digital transformation efforts”, said the ruler.

The Minister informed that after Public and Government Institutions were victims of cyber attacks, in February 2021, the Council of Ministers created a working group headed by the Minister of Science, Technology, composed of the Ministers of Transport and Communication and National Defense and of the Interior with the aim of establishing measures to prevent and combat cyber attacks, in order to bring solutions to the problem.

"In response to the request of the Council of Ministers, the aforementioned Ministries prepared the Cyber ​​Security Action Plan for Mozambique 2022 – 2025 (PASEC 2022 – 2025), for the protection of information, digital services and critical information infrastructures in cyberspace national”, said the Minister who, with this measure, the Government hopes to achieve an increase in the capacity of trained human resources in the area of ​​information security, as well as an increase in the capacity to protect and mitigate cyber attacks in Mozambique.

On the occasion, the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education called on the deputies of the Assembly of the Republic to mobilize partnerships with regional and international entities to establish cooperation to combat cybercrime.

"With a view to defending the integrity of our sovereignty and the citizen, we are all called to actively participate in raising awareness among citizens so that they are aware of the malicious actions of cybercriminals.”, said Nivagara reiterating his call for deputies to include, in their activities, appeals to national and international communities, on the care they should have in the use of information and communication technologies in order to avoid cybernetics.
