National operators in the telecommunications sector are obliged to share their infrastructures among themselves, according to the national director of Telecommunications, Information Technologies, Matias Borges.

The Governor who spoke to the press during the digital transformation forum, Angola Digital Forum, informed that at the moment the ministry is working with the operators to define the question of sharing and ways of sharing the rents arising from the division of services by users.

According to Matias Borges, the National Institute of Communications (INACOM) is discussing with telecommunications operators, with the support of experts in these matters, in order to reach an understanding on the sharing of telecommunications infrastructures, adding that the ultimate purpose of sharing telecommunications infrastructures is to guarantee services quality to citizens.

"In the period between 2005 and 2020, the Angolan Executive made investments in the construction of infrastructure valued at more than three billion dollars and, as a result, there are currently seven million internet users and more than 15 million mobile network subscribers”, stressed the director.

For the National Director, the aim is to extend coverage more and more to provide a better diversity of services, to allow the entry of new users, still within the scope of the strategy of increasing the number of operators.

Matias Borges also said that the Angolan Government continues to implement projects to increasingly improve telecommunications services, such as AngoSat2, the strategy plan for digital migration, meteorology with the entry of sites that are sending information to the center geo-risk monitoring, among others.

He added that, in the period in question and with the investments made, more than 2 sites appeared at national level and the Government's strategy is to install another three thousand, and, in a first phase, 500 will be installed to expand coverage in the areas rural.

He mentioned that recently the Government amended the regulation for sharing electronic telecommunications infrastructure, with a view to adapting the legal framework to the sector's new reality, and approved the legal regime for teleworking.
