The project Dead Drops was created by the digital artist Aram Bartholl in the city of Berlin's capital city of Germany in the year of 2010. An anonymous network of file sharing via USB device, scattered in public spaces without the need of an internet connection.
USB devices are attached to walls of buildings, schools, amusement parks, bridges, etc. More than 1.600 devices are scattered in these sites aiming to help people share files, from songs, videos, pdf books, images and more for free.
Everyone is invited to share or find files in a place that is known only to Dead Drops users. Connect your notebook to a wall, house or post to share your favorite files and data. All USB are initially formatted and then a readme.txt file is placed explaining the project. Dead Drops registration is free. If you want to install a Dead Drop in your city / neighborhood just follow the instructions and present the location and photos.
