It has been announced that all of Tesla's upcoming cars, up to the Model 3, will come with hardware necessary for self-driving capability. The cars will feature eight surround cameras that will provide 360 degrees of visibility around the car from up to 250 meters away. The driver doesn't even need to be inside the vehicle to park or retrieve it. According to the video, the intention of the brand is to reproduce what would be a normal day in the consumer's daily life.
Before leaving the house, the owner can handle the car by smartphone, so that he leaves the garage alone and meets the driver at the door. On the street, when accessing a well-marked expressway, the driver activates the autonomous driving assistant, which allows the car to drive at a constant speed, bypass curves alone and follow the traffic ahead. The vehicle can also switch lanes autonomously.
It is important to note that even in this autonomous condition, the video is careful to show the driver not to take his hands off the steering wheel. As the feature is still limited, the manufacturer's recommendation is to leave hands on the wheel, even if the car is following alone, for safety reasons.
