I believe that many of us connected to information technologies, the name Edward Snowden is not new, but for those who do not know, this is the man who fled the United States and received asylum in Russia after leaking secret files in 2013 that revealed vast operations domestic and international surveillance carried out by the US National Security Agency (NSA) USA, where he was employed.

US authorities have wanted Snowden to return to the United States for years to face a criminal trial on spying charges. But it looks like the story has just gained a new chapter. The former US intelligence contractor has just received Russian citizenship.

In 2020, Snowden said he and his pregnant wife were applying for Russian citizenship so as not to be separated from their unborn child in an era of pandemics and closed borders. Russia granted him permanent residency rights the same year, paving the way for him to obtain Russian citizenship.

O The decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, Snowden, 39, has been living in exile in Russia since he exposed the National Security Agency (NSA) program that affected millions of Americans in 2013. The man faces allegations of spying in the US, has made no public comment on this new citizenship.
