O “Emerging Program”, launched to support Startups, small and medium-sized companies (SMEs), with high growth potential in the market, had a positive balance as it will raise funding from the capital market, thus contributing to the diversification of funding sources, promoting the inclusion of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the capital market and boosting the growth of the various sectors of the economy.

This information was revealed by Vanessa Simões, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Capital Market Commission (CMC), speaking at the 17.edition of Banking in Analysis, a study that has become one of the main initiatives of the Deloitte Angola, emphasizing that the Emergentes Program was designed and is implemented in partnership with accelerators, incubators and consultants, with the aim of preparing SMEs.

According to the PCA, after the application process, one hundred and thirty-four companies from the different provinces of the country were registered, highlighting the province of Luanda with a weight of 75%, Benguela with 7%, Huíla and Namibe with 4%, equally, in the different sectors of activity, with service providers in greater representation, with the weight of 77%, followed by the agriculture and livestock sector with 5% and the trade sector with 4%.

According to Vanessa Simões, the program is in the process of selecting the ten startups that are most robust, with a view to benefiting from the mentoring program, with a view to future admission of projects in the SME market segment of BODIVA.

"Therefore, from an operational point of view, there is a positive assessment of the program since, so far, it has been meeting initial expectations, which makes us believe that companies will be able to achieve the ultimate goal of the program, which is to finance themselves with the capital market", said.

Launched last year, the Emergentes Program is intended to support small, medium-sized companies (SMEs) and startups, with high potential in different stages of growth, as well as to improve governance and management practices, maturation of their products and services, in order to enable them to issue financial instruments in the capital market.

According to the sub-director of CMC's Development Office, Juceline Paquete, the program falls within the scope of this institution's mission of regulating, inspecting, supervising and promoting the capital market in Angola. Lasting for three years, he added, the initiative also takes place within the framework of actions to promote the capital market, allowing the Angolan economy to have more and diversified financing options (crowdfunding and venture capital), boosting sustainable growth.
