Angolan society is still uninformed about the recycling of electronic waste and its impact on the environment, according to Décio Silva, CEO of the startup Narisrec, which operates in the management of electronic waste.

"They do not realize the damage that can cause health, which shows that the country has potential, but due to market bureaucracy it is extremely difficult for a company like ours to grow naturally, since the majority of the population needs to learn a lot about the advantages and disadvantages in electronic waste management".

For the founder, the urgent need for joint work between authorities and communities regarding issues “legal and environmental”, as well as carrying out environmental awareness and education campaigns.

In an interview with the magazine REPORT AND INDEXES, Décio Silva stressed that Angola is the third largest producer of electronic waste in the Portuguese Speaking Countries (PALOPs), followed by Brazil and Portugal. According to him, 68% of Angolans are poor and many of them do not have opportunities to buy new electronic equipment and 90% of public and private companies store electronic waste inappropriately. He also explained that, every year, approximately 225 new electronic equipment enter the country.

The startup Narisrec was a small computer repair shop, which later turned into an electronic waste management company, where its main objective is to recycle electronic waste "ecologically and sustainably".

In addition to the management and commercialization of electronic waste, the startup also operates in the area of ​​information technology (IT) asset management, environmental consultancy for companies indicating how they can better manage their electronic waste, deactivation of datacenters for a better rationalization, as well as the valuation and reduction of costs when changing IT infrastructures.

It also acts in the destruction of data and disks through internationally accepted procedures, without neglecting the sale of refurbished and used electronic equipment.
