Sonangol to build a green hydrogen production plant in Angola

A Sonangol signed an agreement with the German companies Conjucta GmbH and Gauff GmbH & Co. Engineering Kg for the implementation of a green hydrogen production plant in Angola, reveals the Angolan company in an official statement.

According to what is revealed by the official note, released last week, work is currently taking place involving the Research and Development Centre, namely in conceptual and engineering studies for “identify the location for the factory installation".

For the main national public company, green hydrogen is one of the cleanest energy sources and that production in the future factory will be via water electrolysis, which should be ensured by renewable energy sources.

"Due to its geographical, hypsometric characteristics and abundance of water resources, Angola stands out as a country with high potential in renewable energy sources"The statement said.

The construction of the factory for the production of the compound and its derivatives, in national territory, for domestic consumption and export, is part of the company's energy transition strategy, in the search for renewable energy resources, as well as this operation joins other established by Sonangol in the field of energy transition, with which the company plans to transform itself into a National Energy Company.
