The energy transition to renewable energies (photovoltaic) it is essential and necessary for the desired economic development of Angola, according to the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, Jánio Correia Victor.

The public manager who was speaking on the day dedicated to the oil sector at FILDA 2022, stressed that renewable energies are positioned as a source in full development, which are linked to the current concern to preserve the environment and free from any pollution and waste.

The Secretary of State informed that the Government is already working on several projects to produce renewable energy throughout the country, highlighting the provinces of Huíla, Cabinda, Namibe and Cuanza Sul.

Jánio Correia Victor reiterated that for the country to meet the goals set, to start producing renewable energies, it is essential to explore other energy sources, with renewables being the future.

It was highlighted that the projects under development in the province of Namibe, in partnership with Eni, and in Huíla, with the oil company Total, as well as that a research center for hydrogen production is planned in the province of Cuanza Sul.

 Sonangol is in partnership with Eni, in Caraculo, in the province of Namibe, which is a renewable energy project, a photovoltaic for around 25 megawatts, in a first phase, and another 25 megawatts in the second phase.

The projects in the province of Huíla, in the municipalities of Caraculo and Quilemba, the latter of which will have an initial capacity of 37 megawatts, which should evolve to 80 megawatts, led by French company Total.
