Twitter will officially end “Fleets”

Whether you like it or not, the Twitter has just revealed that he will end “Fleets”, his attempt to create a platform for Stories within the social network.

Fleets were unveiled by the company in November 2020, and were seen as an alternative to posting quick and temporary content to account followers. Content shared within Fleets was only available for 24 hours and then automatically removed.

As of August 3rd, the functionality will no longer be available, and instead users should just check the Spaces that are active now. The feature was always met with some dislike by Twitter users, but it was still something used by some content creators to quickly update their audience – which could also be done with… a tweet.

The platform's decision to close the Fleets is not only a confirmation that this feature is not at all a success with the community, but also that the company has not managed to make it flashy enough to captivate more users for its platform and above all to create content.

One of Twitter's main problems lies in the fact that the vast majority of the platform's users only use it to access content from other users, and not to create publications or new themes. The Fleets were a way around this, but clearly far from being a success.
