Uber in recent times has been involved in scandals, one of the most recent was for having concealed the theft of data of about 57 million users, but the company did not slow down its services.
Some African cities are already using Uber, but since March 27, 2018, Uber has revealed that at the end of each trip, passengers will now be able to tip the driver. This feature will also be available when ordering food from Uber Eats.
Over the past year, Uber introduced a number of new features to the Uber app to simplify and improve the partner-driver experience in South Africa. Some of the changes introduced include paid waiting times, long travel notifications, rating protection and a function of chat in the application.
Why was the tip function launched in South Africa?
Second Alon Lits (Uber Sub-Saharan Africa General Manager), "Over the years, many drivers have been asked to launch the in-app gratuity function so their customers can more easily reward great service and the act of going beyond expectations. Improving the driving experience has been one of the top priorities of the company in recent years. So we are pleased to launch this new feature as a continuation of this effort and make the application work better for more than 13 thousand drivers in South Africa."
How will tips be paid?
At the end of each trip, Uber users will have the option of multiple slope values or an amount that can be customized. These options will be available under the rating and compliment section and will remain completely optional. Payments will be deducted from the passenger's registered credit card or customers who pay cash will be free to tip an additional amount of their choice.
