Uíge. Six hospitals installed with telemedicine services

The province of Uíge now has six hospitals with the telemedicine service, in order to facilitate interaction in patient care and, consequently, reduce the transfer of patients with serious complications.

Municipal hospitals in the province that have this technology are Uíge, Negage, Maquela do Zombo, Quimbele and Hospital do Catapa, where it will now be possible to monitor patients in areas of medicine where there are no specialist doctors, access to exams from anywhere in the country, among other features.

With the telemedicine service installed more than a year ago at the Hospital Geral do Uíge, it allowed the care of 15 cases of cardiovascular complications, neurosurgery, oncology and hemodialysis, as well as reduced patient transfers to the country's capital, Luanda, evaluated at a cost of 100 Kwanzas per patient.

For the clinical director of the Hospital Geral do Uíge, Nlando Nzunzi, the installation of the telemedicine service in the province will allow the exchange of experiences between health professionals, and where he justified that the installation of the technology was motivated by the fact that there are still hospitals without doctors specialists, especially regional and municipal ones.

"The initiative will make it possible to interact with doctors at hospitals in Luanda, Huambo, Moxico, as well as health units abroad.”, said Nlando Nzunzi.

On the other hand, Virgílio Cordeiro, advisor for the technical area of ​​the Provincial Government of Uíge, informed that several pieces of equipment have already been installed, to allow online consultation, data and voice services in the referred hospitals.

Virgílio Cordeiro also added that a VSAT network with global coverage, telemedicine kits that will be shared between the hospital units covered by the programme, as well as the training, starting this month, of more than 10 doctors were also installed. He considered the installation of this service satisfactory in six points of the province of Uíge, an initiative that could be extended to the 16 municipalities in the region.
