Unitel will have network coverage in all municipalities in the country by 2021

The operator Unitel announced Wednesday that network coverage in the 542 communes of Angola, an investment of one billion dollars started in 2008, will be completed in the next three years.

According to the Deputy Director General of Unitel, Amílcar SafecaCurrently, only 42% of the municipalities benefit from mobile network coverage, including all provincial capitals in the country. “The network expansion project added and prioritized the coverage of the 164 municipalities in Angola, a process that ended 2011, at the same time that the company is now dedicating itself to the introduction of the fifth mobile generation to accompany the typing challenges that face the economies around the world ”.

Amílcar Safeca said that the company intends to remain in the "front line" of the operators in Africa, something that began to materialize in 2012, with the launching of the fourth mobile generation, being, at the time, Angola one of the first countries of the continent to make it available in the network.

Unitel's deputy director general also assured that the company will soon use a technology available from 2017, which allows the signal to arrive more easily inside the buildings, with benefits for communications. This year, he added, the network's capacity will be doubled in provincial capitals, adding that in addition to Luanda, the cities of Cabinda, Lubango, Huambo, Benguela, Lobito and Dundo already benefit from services of the fourth mobile generation, this year to Malanje, Cuito, Soyo, Uíge and Namibe.

The details of the Unitel network expansion project come at a time when, since the end of 2017, the Angola Telecom, which will also extend the fixed network communications service to the mobile network, and the tender for the award of a fourth license for the national mobile voice and data network.
