Western Digital announces new 14TB HD

Western Digital, announced a new hard drive developed for the enterprise market with a record storage capacity of 14TB.

It is the highest capacity HD ever developed so far, has surpassed 12TB's HD Seagate and Western Digital itself. It is a version with more capacity of the HGST drive Ultrastar He12 PMR, also of WD, that also is being sent to tests at the moment.

The 3,5-inch device has a 6 Gb / s or 12 Gb / s SAS interface, 512 MB of buffer, 7.200 RPM and data transfer rate of up to 233 MB / s. Western Digital also highlights the fourth generation of HelioSeal technology, which allows the interior of the unit to be filled with helium.

Western Digital also promises reliability and a long service life with its new product. According to the company, Ultrastar Hs14 has an MTBF (time between failures) of 2,5 million hours.

The Ultrastar Hs14 business hard drive will be made available by Western Digital partners shortly. The price of the product has not yet been revealed.
