Windows 11 only has 15% market share

A Microsoft has been encouraging users to upgrade to Windows 11, but at the same time, this process has also been hampered by the requirements that the new version of the system has – which leave aside a large part of users even in hardware still considered "capable".

However, even with the incentives, it seems that Windows 11 is still far from being attractive to most users. According to the latest data from Statcounter company, there are currently 15% of all Windows systems that are on the latest version of the system.

Windows data on the market

During the month of October 2022, Windows 11 gained 1.83% market share, going from 13.61% to 15.44%. Despite being a rise, it is still far from reaching the popularity of Windows 10, which currently continues with a market share of 71.29%. Interestingly, the now “buried” Windows 7 still has a 9.61% share.

Overall, Windows systems account for 75.93% of the global personal computer market, with macOS scoring 15.74% and Linux around 2.6%. ChromeOS closes the table with 2.38%.

It is important to note that each measurement company on the market has its own way of validating systems where Windows is installed. If we take into account the data from the company AdDuplex, the previous value was 23%, much higher than the data presented by Statcounter, based on the way in which these were also collected.

However, the general idea remains: there is still a small percentage of users actually upgrading to Windows 11, with the majority still on Windows 10, and this should remain so for the foreseeable future, whether due to hardware limitations or by choice.
