AfricaCom 2022. Meet the winners of Africa's premier tech event

The winners of the 15th Africa Tech Festival Awards (formerly the AfricaCom Awards), sponsored by Intelsat, were announced in Cape Town (South Africa) last week as the second day of the Africa Tech Festival received yet another record attendance.

"It has been refreshing and energizing to be back face to face with the technology and telecommunications community again. There is significant advancement in all things digital across the world and nowhere is it more prominent than in Africa. Tonight's awards recognize him and those at the pinnacle of innovation in the industry. Congratulations to them and to all who were part of the process“, said Hans Geldenhuys, Director of Intelsat Africa.

The winners of the Africa Tech Festival Awards 2022 were:

Startup of the Year

This award recognizes the most innovative start-up that has shown potential over the past year for high growth and purpose-driven impact.

Womenovate – a female-focused online learning platform based in Nigeria that provides women in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics) access to resources, training courses and jobs from world-class universities and companies, helping to bridging the gender gap/gap and increasing female participation in STEAM fields and sectors.

 

HealthTech Innovation of the Year

New for 2022, this award recognizes emerging healthcare technologies across Africa that are changing lives, advancing healthcare and impacting individuals and communities for the better.

Nextwear Technologies – the first wearable technology start-up in Nigeria, and inventor of a smart bra that can detect breast cancer in its earliest stages.

 

VC/Investor of the Year Award

This award recognizes the most impactful fund in Africa providing investment to support, build and scale its investment businesses.

Meridian – An asset and fund manager invested in African infrastructure, including 4 solar plants in Senegal, a geothermal plant in Ethiopia, a hydroelectric scheme in Gabon, a biomass plant in Côte d'Ivoire and solar systems in West Africa. It has now invested in helping to build and develop more than 12 carrier-neutral data centers on Tier III carriers across the African continent.

 

Fintech Innovation of the Year

This award recognizes the organisation, project or individual that has disrupted the African Fintech space.

Kyanda Africa

 

Green ICT Champion

This award celebrates the individual or organization that leads in the development and integration of sustainable energy solutions.
