Angolans complain of telephone and internet failures in recent days

Making calls, checking messages or checking social networks has become a difficult task for Angolans in recent days. This is because the population has found constant failures with the mobile phone and internet signal, offered by the various operators, being the result of a Simultaneous cutting of the three main submarine cables (WACS, SAT3 and ACE).

According to several customers interviewed by MenosFios, problems such as the lack of signal have been directly interfering with calls and use of mobile data.

"It's been a long time since we've had problems of this type, both for calling and connecting to mobile data using the operators that currently exist in Angola. We pay and we are not using the service, because since Monday (07) the internet signal has been of poor quality", said.

BUT: Angosat-2 will receive stronger and better quality signals with the landing of 2Africa

With several complaints about the inconvenience, some customers are considering filing a collective action with internet service providers, in order to compensate for these lost days.

From what was revealed to our journalists, this degradation of communication services is due to a break in submarine cables, probably associated with strong currents in the Congo River. The consortia that manage the respective submarine systems are already working on repairing the cuts and it is expected that communications will be restored by the beginning of September.

According to Angola Cables, the most affected countries are those located south of the Democratic Republic of Congo, but in Angola "there will only be a slight degradation in the quality of the internet and communications as Angola Cables continues to guarantee Angolan international communications through an alternative route, provided by the submarine systems SAC and Monet, which connect Luanda to Brazil and the United States of America".

The simultaneous cut in the three main submarine cables (WACS, SAT3 and ACE), which connect the west coast of Africa to Europe, will have occurred more than 150 kilometers from the Congo River estuary, mainly affecting international communications with Europe, you can read up in the official note of the company.

“At the moment, no further details are known about the exact location and cause of the cuts, but if the location is confirmed, it will not be the first time that the strong currents of the Congo River have caused ruptures in submarine systems”, continues the press.
