Threads API is under development, guarantees Adam Mosseri

Instagram director Adam Mosseri said yesterday that the Instagram API Threads is under development. This will give programmers the possibility of creating different applications that involve the social network.

API

An Application Programming Interface (API) is a software intermediary that allows two applications to “talk” to each other. Every time you use an app like Facebook, send a message or check the weather on your smartphone, all you are presented with is the response to your request to an API.

The topic came up when Mosseri responded to journalist Casey Newton, who was talking to a user about an experience similar to TweetDeck's X for Threads. The director of Instagram expressed concern about publishers posting a lot of content and, in turn, overshadowing other content creators.

We are working on it. My concern is that this means a lot more publisher content and not a lot more creator content, but it still feels like something we need to do.

BUT: Threads reaches over 100 million monthly users

Mosseri said in a post.

Threads says it is not “anti-news” but that it “will not actively amplify the news.” News publications rely on third-party tools and integrations with different social networks to automatically publish to platforms like X, LinkedIn and Facebook.

With the lack of API availability on newer platforms like Threads, publishers have to publish content manually, which isn't ideal for news organizations that post a lot of articles per day.
