Multicaixa cards accepted outside the country, “Multicaixa/Mastercard, will reach customers by the end of the year, when they will begin to be issued by Angolan commercial banks, contributing, above all, to the convenience of customers traveling to the outside the country, informed Interbank Services Company (EMIS).

According to the director of Business Development at EMIS, Sílvia Pires, speaking in an interview with ANGOP, stresses that in addition to meeting the banking needs of citizens in Angola and abroad with a single card, this device will also contribute to reducing costs for banks, which have issued two cards of the kind, one for local use and one for the other outside the country.

As for the purpose of the recent announcement about the Multicaixa/Mastercard issuance process, the official adds that the creation of this card aims to provide a more comfortable and convenient payment instrument for traveling users, bringing added value in relation to prepaid and credit cards.

Specifically, says the source, it is a device that aggregates logical cards from two different brands, that is, in the same plastic device, two payment cards coexist, one of which is a debit card from the Multicaixa brand and the other from Mastercard.

When the multibrand debit card is used in the country, the maximum amount will be the balance of the account to which it is associated and the rules (prudential limits) for daily operations defined by the National Bank of Angola (BNA), through Instruction no. 24/21.

In the opposite direction (use of the card outside Angola), the Multicaixa/Mastercard will be limited by the account balance, the prudential limits and the limits for use abroad established by the bank issuing the card.

BUT: EMIS. Kwik will shape the future of retail payments in Angola

On the other hand, when the debit card, issued by an Angolan bank, is used outside the country, through an Automatic Teller Machine (CA/ATM) or Automatic Payment Terminal (APT), a message is sent in real time to the card-issuing bank requesting authorization to carry out the operation.

This request indicates the amount in foreign currency of the operation, the exchange rate to be used and other commissions.

Then, the card-issuing bank authorizes or rejects the request. If you authorize it, the operation is debited from the account associated with the card for the counter value plus due commissions.

The partnership between EMIS and Mastercard will allow the coexistence of two brands on a single payment card, issued by Angolan Commercial Banks, which means that whenever the multi-brand debit card is used in the national territory, it will be considered as a “card”. debit MULTICAX“, and conversely, whenever it is used abroad, it will be considered a “Mastercard debit card”, and all operations will always be linked to the holder's payment account.
