Clubhouse the new social network of voice conversations

A social voice network, only for those who use smartphones or other devices of the Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), and that you can only enter by invitation. So is the Clubhouse, an application created by Rohan Seth, a former employee of Google, and by Paul Davidson, Silicon Valley entrepreneur.

Launched in May 2020, the application had more than 1,5 users. The Clubhouse's big turning point was the participation of Elon Musk on the platform, for a chat with Vlad Tenev, CEO of Robinhood, in the first week of February 2021, with the increase in popularity of the platform that today has more than 600 thousand users.

So far, the application is only available on App Store. To get access, you must be invited by someone already registered in the application. Each user is entitled to two invitations. Whoever is invited receives a link sent by text message on the smartphone.

Be careful, because if the person violates the terms of use, both they and the person who provided the invitation can be banned. According to the creators of the social network, the goal is to create an engaged community and complete the beta stage of the application in 2021 so that they can eventually “open the Clubhouse to the whole world”. In the meantime, it is possible to register on the waiting list and reserve a username. When access is granted, the social network will send a message to the interested party's phone.

There are great “conversation circles” for varied interests and it is also possible to create private chats (with friends, for example). Everything happens 100% by voice, giving the impression of constantly listening to a podcast. Recording conversations is strictly prohibited - and they are not stored within the platform.

After entering the application, the user can define which subjects interest him. On the timeline, rooms of different themes appear, where people chat in real time by audio. Whoever enters a room enters as a listener. If you want to talk, just raise your hand for the moderators to give the authorization, just like in Zoom. It is also possible to create your own room to chat with friends and people from around the world.

All communication takes place only through the voice. Audios cannot be recorded or saved. The application's proposal, according to its founders, is to promote “interesting conversations” via the platform. Last year, names like Drake, Oprah Winfrey and Virgil Abloh became fans of the platform.
