Meet the winners of the DSTV Eutelsat 2018 Star Awards

27 was held on 2018 on November 10, 00 at the Tropic Hotel in Luanda, the Prize Ceremony for the 8ªEdição do Dstv Eutelsat Stars Competition, the same is intended for high school students between the 14 and 19 years across the African continent.

Three students were awarded in the national evaluation (Angola), two in the Writing category and one in the Poster category.

Silvano Nelumbo José de 16, a student of the Magisterium Patrice Lumumba of the province of Namibe, was the winner of the Poster category, with a project focused on the renewable energy sector. It is a Satellite capable of capturing energy from the Sun and relaying it to a ground base station for processing and subsequent distribution.

While in the Writing category the Winner was Albino Magalhães of 19 years student of the Polytechnic Institute Hamba, of the province of the Kwanza Sul whose writing presented / displayed three ideas:

  • Health - device for conducting medical examinations with satellite communication.
  • Road Safety - device capable of provide traffic information and not only in real time.
  • Public Security - Satellite monitoring system for border areas.

In the same category, the second place was awarded to the student Ana Imilde by Paula Teixeira from 16 years, a student at the Happiness Tree of Luanda province for her essay that presented two ideas:

  • Maintenance Satellite - capable of attaching to another in orbit to perform sourcing operations and upgrades.
  • Garbage Collection Satellite - able to travel through space, collecting space junk like other satellites already in disuse that sometimes represent danger to astronauts and other satellites, etc.

The prizes awarded were:

1st

  • Decoder Explore with certified installation and 1 subscription year of the BUET package
  • Portable computer

2st

  • HD decoder with certified installation and 1 year subscription of the package BUÉ
  • Smartphone

Teachers who tutored the works are rewarded (thanks) with 1 tablet and the schools of the first classified also receive a decoder with certified installation and 1 year of subscription.

The panel of the Jury for the national evaluation was composed by:

  •  Dr. Gabriel Miguel representing the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
  • Dr. Giza Custódio representing the Ministry of Education.
  • Dr. Amaro João representing the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology.
  • Drª. Fuamau Narciso representing the Media Library Network.
