MacPaw, a popular application developer, released the Setapp a platform that aims to bridge the gap in a modern, secure and reliable application source that Mac App Store suffers because of an undeniable impatience of Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),.

Setapp can be classified as an online application subscription service for Mac, where the user pays a monthly value of $ 10 and installs a small application on their Mac, which will place a folder "Setapp"In their Finder bookmarks. Within this folder, the menu of applications available to install any one appears, just double-click and in a few moments it will be running, even without an internet connection.

The producer MacPaw intends to reach around 300 applications on the platform, but always keeping the focus on offering quality above all, instead of the quantity that is a characteristic of the Mac App Store. According to Oleksandr Kosovan, founder of MacPaw, he said that the problem with the official macOS app store is precisely the excess of options; many applications have been abandoned without updates for years, a number of others do not have a satisfactory level of quality and, worse, a good quantity cannot be sold in the store because of Apple's strict rules

Setapp comes to theoretically solve these problems and offer a fairer way to pass on profits to the developers. Of all revenue generated by the service, 70% will be passed on to developers directly, the other 30% will be from MacPaw, but the company will distribute a portion of this share as a "bonus" to developers who most attract subscribers to the service.

For the time being, the Setapp is in a closed testing phase, the public beta phase will begin soon, for a general launch early next year. An excellent idea that could be a success in the Mac market.
