A Ericsson and Cisco, reinforced their strategic partnership to include a new offering of Wi-Fi solutions, called Evolved Wi-Fi Networks (EWN). EWN combines Ericsson 3 GPP access, core networks and applications with the Cisco Wi-Fi portfolio to provide reliable, performance-oriented connection to the Swedish manufacturer's mobile and cable clients.

The partnership will include pre-integrated solutions that enable the creation of small cells for indoor environments, by combining Ericsson's indoor access networks with Cisco WLAN, in addition to allowing operators that have indoor access networks Ericsson external customers use Cisco WLAN to provide access to their subscribers.

The other advantage is traffic routing, which enables the integration of Cisco WLAN with Ericsson's in-house access networks or through Ericsson's unique real-time traffic management feature allows operators to target users between mobile access and Wi-Fi.

Yvette Kanouff, globally responsible for the Cisco service provider business unit, revealed that Wi-Fi traffic is expected to account for 50% of total IP traffic by 2020. Given this, one of the service providers' priorities is to offer the best connected experiences possible for your customers.

Rima Qureshi, president of Ericsson in North America, said that by adding Wi-Fi solutions to the partnership, we will allow our customers to offer the best Wi-Fi on their networks, complemented by our 3GPP portfolio and services.

The strategic partnership between the two companies has so far generated more than 250 businesses, where more than 60 of them, all over the world, are connected to the IP (routing and transport) sectors and services. And some services are also used in some telecommunications companies operating in Angola.
